About Us

 

Caroline and Andrew Gilbert welcome you to Magpies a family run Restaurant, with three luxury en-suite rooms.

 

Set in a row of black and cream cottages, an elegant duck egg blue and cream decor, crisp white linen, silver candlesticks and fresh flowers evoke an intimate and relaxed atmosphere to compliment the fine dining experience. Enjoy an aperitif on the small patio on balmy summer evenings or the warmth of the wood burning stove on chilly winters nights.

 

Andrew is Head Chef and his passion and enthusiasm are reflected in the quality of the menu, care is taken to source ingredients locally, wherever possible. Caroline creates delicious desserts and runs front of house. Service is formal and attentive but delivered in a friendly and relaxed style.

 

Savour Magpies award winning cuisine in our delightful restaurant. The extensive wine list is a treat for all.

Dining

 

Andrew uses high quality locally sourced seasonal produce for creating his menus and these are sample menus that indicate the style of dishes that Magpies Restaurant offers. Magpies extensive wine list is a treat for all and has been awarded the Waitrose Good Food Guide symbol for an outstanding wine list (Prices start from £16.35).

 

Dress code – Smart casual

Magpies dining room is elegant and our guests are smartly dressed. We do not insist

on a jacket and tie but we do ask that our guests do not wear Trainers shorts or sportswear.

 

Special dietary requirements

Everything is freshly prepared on the premises by Andrew and his small team and we endeavour to accommodate our Guests dietary requirements whenever possible.

 

Children

We have no age restrictions on children dining in our restaurant. But we do appreciate

well behaved children and encourage younger guests to dine at lunchtime.

Magpies dining room is small and intimate and a reservation is highly recommended Please be aware that we do not automatically hold a table for room guests At the time of booking a table we may ask for a deposit to secure the reservation Magpies will take a deposit for restaurant bookings for special evenings or lunches, for parties and for tables of 6 or more people. If you cancel with less than 48hours notice and we are unable to re-let your table then you will lose your deposit.

Bedrooms

 

Magpies has three elegantly furnished luxury en-suite rooms offering an
ideal base for exploring the many delights of the Lincolnshire
countryside. All three rooms have mini-bar, tv and welcome tray with free

Room 1 is a bright and airy room at the back of the premises, decorated
with pale green and pink florals with a modern hint of fuchsia pink. This
is a twin/double room with a large en-suite shower room, w.c,
contemporary double basins and a white shuttered window.

Room 2 is situated at the front of the property and has a damson and
antique chrome colour scheme.This room has a queen sized double
bed.There are stairs leading down to the spacious bathroom with a free
standing bath tub, separate shower, w.c. and basin.

Room 3 is also situated at the front of the building and has warm bright
creamy gold décor and a super king chocolate brown leather bed.The
en-suite bathroom has a bath tub, separate shower, double pedestal
basins and privacy shutter at the window which overlooks the small patio
at the back of the premises.

Magpies is in the perfect location for those who enjoy golf, antiques, nature and walking.

The area is ideal for those who enjoy a variety of activities, there is a golf club in Horncastle and Louth (15 miles) and the renowned golf course at Woodhall Spa (5 miles). For those who appreciate antiques Horncastle is one of the main centres along with nearby Helmswell and Swinderby. The Viking Way passes through Horncastle, starting at Oakham and finishing at the Humber Bridge and the old railway track from Woodhall Spa to Horncastle has also been re-opened as a nature trail with works of art along the way. The coast is to the east with seaside resorts such as Skegness, Mablethorpe and Sutton-on-sea(21miles). If you feel like shopping head to Lincoln (20 miles) where there is also the magnificent Cathedral, Castle and Joseph Banks Centre at the Lawn near the castle.

Cadwell Park race track is located 10 miles north of Horncastle, It is renown for the British Super Bikes, Vintage, Classic bike and Car events.

Booking Information

At the time of booking a room we will ask for a small deposit to confirm your booking. If you cancel with less than 48hours notice and we are unable to re-let your room then you will lose your deposit. Arrivals and departures Guests are asked to leave their room between 10.00am and 10.30am. Housekeeping is usually done by 100pm and your room will normally be available by this time. We are closed between 4.00pm and 6.00pm so it is important to agree an arrival time in advance, so that someone is here to welcome you. Free WiFi access in our bedrooms.
